It seems almost old-fashioned now…

A golden vintage chair and wooden dressing table and mirror stand against a darkgreen painted wall

Those wooden dressers with big mirrors that stood quietly in the corners of our mothers’ and grandmothers’ bedrooms.

My mother, her mother, and her mother before that all had them: a table to collect her things, a space that was hers alone. Scattered with little bottles, keepsakes, framed photos, and a carefully chosen cloth. As a child, I found it odd. My mother never spent much time on ‘beauty.’

But looking back, I realise these weren’t just practical pieces of furniture to store things. They were little altars, private sanctuaries for self-care and quiet reflection. Sacred spaces, they are places to pause, to honour what was cherished, and to reconnect with oneself.

Your Home: A Reflection of You

In Feng Shui, our environment is never just a backdrop.

The way we arrange our homes is a mirror of our inner world, and every object, corner, and surface tells a story about who we are and what we value.

When we create intentional spaces – like those dressing tables of old – we invite in clarity, calm, and a sense of belonging.

Ask yourself: What story is your home telling? Are your spaces supporting the life you want to create, or are they holding you back?

Feng Shui and Personal Responsibility

Embracing Feng Shui begins with personal responsibility.

It’s not just about moving furniture or adding decorative items… It starts with decluttering your thinking and evaluating your relationship with yourself.

You don’t need to undertake major renovations or spend a fortune. Instead, you can use your judgment and intuition to create a life you love. The Feng Shui for the Home course shows how small changes can shift energy powerfully.

Feng Shui teaches that we are active participants in shaping the energy of our lives. By taking responsibility for our environment, we take responsibility for our well-being.

Clutter blocks the flow of energy (chi), while thoughtful arrangement opens pathways for new opportunities and growth.
Even a small change – a cleared surface, a meaningful object placed with intention – can shift the energy in a room and within yourself.

By observing your environment and making small, intentional changes, you can significantly shift the energy of your home and, therefore your life.

Feng Shui is simply living intentionally – a shift in thinking and a way of life. It’s about being present and deliberate in how you shape your surroundings, and recognising that every choice you make in your space is a reflection of your commitment to your own well-being.

Creating a Habit of Positive Energy

Feng Shui encourages you to create a habit of joy and peace.

Just as our mothers tended their dressing tables, we can cultivate daily rituals that support positive energy in our own lives.
By releasing negativity and focusing on gratitude, you create space for more positive energy to flow into your life and home.

Decluttering, refreshing a vase of flowers, or lighting a candle are simple acts that can transform the mood of a space.
The key is consistency: making a habit of caring for your environment is a powerful act of self-care.
Over time, these small, intentional actions build a foundation of harmony and support, allowing you to experience greater joy, peace, and fulfillment in your everyday life.

Harnessing the Power of the Five Elements

A fundamental aspect of Feng Shui is working with the Five Elements: fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Each element represents a different type of energy, and together they create balance and harmony in your home and life.

Element Symbolizes How to Incorporate Benefits
Fire Passion, energy, reputation Candles, warm lighting, red accents Brings illumination and vitality
Earth Stability, nourishment, grounding Natural materials, earthy tones, ceramics Provides security and support
Metal Clarity, precision, abundance Silver/gold decor, metallics, circular shapes Promotes focus and productivity
Water Flow, adaptability, abundance Mirrors, blues, water features, wavy shapes Encourages renewal and prosperity
Wood Growth, vitality, connection Plants, green colours, natural wood Enhances creativity and stability

Consciously weaving these elements into your home can help you manifest your desires and support your goals.

Taking the First Step Towards Intentional Living

Your home holds the potential to be a powerful source of renewal and inspiration. Start by observing your spaces with fresh eyes. What areas feel nourishing? Where does energy feel stuck or stagnant?

Start small. Don’t be overwhelmed. Embrace the idea of little altars!

Make a space and beautify it in a way that is meaningful to you. Whether its arrangements on shelves, trays filled with objects of delight, or stolen spaces on windowsills, craft areas no matter how small. Let them hold space for what you hold dear.

Show up. Experiment. Make small changes. Get curious. Feel your way through…
